Q. How do I use the
icons?
- Unzip the file - you'll get corticon.icl
and corticon.txt. Put them somewhere you like. If
you don't know how to unzip something, ask someone else!
- Use your right mouse button to click on the
icon you want to change.
- Select 'Properties' from the box that appears.
- Select the 'Shortcut' tab.
- Click on the 'Change Icon' button.
- Click on the 'Browse' button and then find
the directory you have put 'cortina.icl' in. You'll need to
use the 'Files of type' button to show 'All Files', otherwise
you won't see corticon.icl.
- Double click on corticon.icl.
- A box will come up with all the icons in
the library. Just click on the icon you want to use and the
click on 'OK'.
- Click on 'OK' to get you out of the 'Properties'
dialogue box.
Q. I still can't get it to work. Am I bit
dull?
Yes.
Q. I put them on my desktop but they
look crap. Why?
If you use the standard Windows 95 desktop,
it uses 16 colour icons. These icons are 256 colour icons and
hence will look crap. If you have 'Microsoft Plus' installed
on your computer you'll have 256 colour icons and they'll look
just fine. For the rest of you, you'll need the little Microsoft
Windows font-smoothing program. If you do, download it here
by shift-clicking on the link:
w95gray.exe
(174kb)
Download it, run the program, and follow the
instructions to install it. To use it, right-click on your desktop.
Go to 'Properties' in the box that pops up. You'll notice a
Plus! tab in your 'Display Properties' dialogue box. Click on
it, then tick / check the box that says 'Show icons using all
possible colors'. Once you've got it going your icons will look
trick.
If you use Windows 98, right-click on your desktop.
Go to 'Properties' in the box that pops up. Under the 'Effects,
tab of the 'Display Properties' dialogue box, tick the option
that says 'Show icons using all possible colours'.
Download the icons:
