Ford Motor Company Announces the new CORTINA... the family-size import from England with the Ford difference!
'Road & Track', January 1963

1963 Cortina (USA) - note bumper overriders

Until Ford engineering advances produced Cortina most imports in its price class offered just another car. About the same wheelbase, and room. Not much to choose from.
But now Ford engineering advances give you a family size import with the Ford difference. And for a low import price.
Let's see where the Ford difference comes from. First, there's size. Cortina offers ample passenger space for 5 in uncramped comfort. More leg room, more hip room. Just plain more comfort room! Padded seats, of course!
Then, too, Cortina has more power. The performance proved engine zips you along at express highway speeds. And you get exceptional mileage on lowest cost regular!
As for style. Look at Cortina. That's another Ford difference you appreciate as the years go by. Cortina stays in style. And, by the way, every Cortina gets a complete anti-rust treatment before coat after coat of enamel is baked on.
More about Cortina under the picture at right. But you know enough now for a proof drive! How about one - soon?

Ford's Cortina: our lowest priced total performance car.
'Car and Driver', July 1966

Total performance doesn't have to be all that expensive. Take Cortina's power plant: a husky four-cylinder engine that can give you up to 30 mpg with enough power to pull out and pass on a turnpike. Lubed for life fittings and sealed underbodies. And inside, everything is covered in washable vinyls, except the floors (they're covered in toe-hugging carpeting).
For $1765.49* you also get disc brakes, and a sporty four-speed transmission, electric windshield wipers, and a luxury interior that features foam-padded bucket seats, safety-padded instrument panel and sun visors. There's room for five adults inside, and you can put their luggage in back because there is a 20 cubic foot trunk.
Cortina has some hidden benefits, too. Like our racing record that shows up in the designed for racing suspension. It really handles like a sports car. Fun, yes, but have you ever thought about what that means in terms of safety? Racing disc brakes that stop you now, sensitive steering and handling that make sure you are going where you want to.
The extra performance of Cortina's race-bred engine makes a big difference, too. Especially when you pull out to pass. A four-speed all-synchromesh transmission that gives you complete control of engine and car speed.
The two-door Cortina Deluxe costs only $1765.49*. We also have a four-door version that sells for just $1884.93*, the station wagon for $2102.10*. The hot GT is only $2121.58*. The fastest of them all, the Cortina modified by Lotus, is only $3419.70*. Test drive a Cortina today; you won't believe us until you do.

*Manufacturer's suggested retail prices, at East Coast P.O.E. Destination charges from P.O.E., other optional equipment and state and local taxes and fees if any, are extra. Car shown is the Cortina GT. Whitewall tires shown $24.21. Overseas delivery available at substantial savings.
